          Scene NRW

          The Krefeld-based bassist Stefan Rademacher

          By Thomas Loewner

Scene NRW broadcasts in WDR 3 Jazz have shown again and again the fact that top-class jazz in North Rhine-Westphalia is played not only in big cities like Cologne, Essen or Dusseldorf. One of these alleged »side scenes« is Krefeld. The bassist Stefan Rademacher lives there, who has been professionally involved in jazz for more than 20 years. In addition to many projects with German colleagues, including Wolfgang Engstfeld, Norbert Gottschalk and Klaus König, he also made a name for himself internationally, for example in the band of American drummer Billy Cobham. In addition to his work as a musician and lecturer, Rademacher has also been taking care of the concert scene in Krefeld for years. Together with the guitarist Axel Fischbacher he founded the series "jazzattack" in 1997. The fact that many well-known jazz colleagues have already participated in these organized jam sessions speaks for its success.
